Ensuring Precision: Data Testing and Validation in the MarkVIe Turbine Control Retrofit Process

 30-Dec-2025

In the complex world of power generation, precision is not just a requirement it is a necessity. Thredio Engineering recently reached a critical milestone in the Steam Turbine Generator (HRSG) Control Retrofit project, specifically during the integration of the GE MarkVIe system.

One of the most vital phases of this retrofit is the I/O (Input/Output) Validation and Data Testing. This process ensures that every signal communicating between the field devices and the control system is perfectly synchronized.

A Detailed and Systematic Process

The validation process involves a meticulous, step-by-step workflow to ensure seamless integration:

  1. Cable Marking: Carefully identifying and marking every I/O cable from the previous MarkV system.

  2. Drawing Conversion: Translating and mapping the old configurations into the new I/O locations and updated engineering drawings.

  3. Field Validation: Conducting one-by-one testing of every local field device to verify that the data entering and exiting the MarkVIe system is 100% accurate.

Safety and Asset Protection as Top Priorities

There is zero room for error in this phase. A single mistake in I/O validation (particularly within the Trip Units) could lead to catastrophic consequences. Inaccurate data could result in significant asset damage or, more importantly, compromise the safety of the personnel on-site.

By implementing these rigorous validation standards, Thredio reaffirms its commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions where safety and reliability are never compromised. This process ensures that the Steam Turbine Generator operates at peak performance with a control system that is both modern and secure.
